Creeping Normalcy

Jared Diamond discusses how societies have slowely destroyed themselves without noticing it until it was too late. These societies did not know that what they were doing was harmful because the affects happened very gradually. An example that Diamond uses is people and societies slowely using up all their resources.
This "creeping normalcy" affect is also true when it comes to peoples health. Millions of people in the United States are physically unhealthy and more than half of the population is overweight. As a result cardiovascular disaese, cancer and diabetes are rising significantly. People do not wake up in the morning and are extremely unhealthy. Instead it is a very gradual process, and people often do not realize until they are in a lot of pain.
